FORTUNE COOKIE TRUTH

Recently, one of our students shared a fortune cookie that said, “Soon you will get the recognition you deserve.”

Deep down inside, we all know that recognition, just like results, doesn’t simply fall in our laps. There are no guarantees in life except that is that something will happen. Even if you do nothing, you will get rewarded something.

Like the Slight Edge Effect, we are either moving towards or away from our goals every minute. If we push a little harder each day, we will arrive a little sooner, and we might even get more than we want or deserve.

This fortune gives us a gleam of hope at the end of the longest and darkest tunnel to our pursuits. It also teaches us that if we do nothing, we might get something. Therefore it is guaranteed that if we do something, we will get more. This framework multiplies so that if we do more, we will not only become more; we will also get more.

Some days we can only do a little something; therefore, we should create “Daily Minimums.” This format helps us move forward slowly and steadily towards our goals.  It gives each step we take every day more intent.  We can all do a little something.  So we must assign ourselves something we can do every day, and similar to climbing a ladder, move one step at a time until we reach the top. On the days we have more in our tanks, we should give ourselves more, and as these days progress, so will we. Before we know it, we will get what we deserve, and maybe even what we want.
