MARS Southwest Camp 2021 (REVIEW)
Recently we hosted our fourth annual MARS Southwest Camp in Austin, Texas. Every year, this Camp continues to get better with training from the instructors and support from its participants. The pandemic has affected so many both directly and indirectly over the last twelve months. During this time, the MARS Caribbean Camp last November and this most recent MARS Southwest Camp were the only two that have continued to press forward with perseverance through these challenging times. The two primary motivations behind this were first to bring hope and light to those during dark times, and second, to show everyone that it is possible to bring people together and train safely. With the same safety protocols in place that our school has used since May of 2020, we joined 22 people together for in-person training. Our advancement this year was when we chose to open the Camp up virtually with access to each instructor’s block of training. This step transformed our training event from the Southwest Camp to an International Camp linking Texas, Washington, and California with England, Italy, and more!
As always, the instructors brought their knowledge, wisdom, and enthusiasm to everyone in-person and virtual. Ron Balicki elaborated on sections that don’t get shared often in seminars, as well as drills he’s never shown before! Nicolas Saignac was on fire with electric movement, jump kicks, and dynamic sparring drills. Marc Ritacco showed everyone how to be a BJJ “human wrecking ball” by increasing pressure with the “little details that equal big results.”
Another bonus offered to attendees was the opportunity to access the video recordings of each section of training. These will soon be available to everyone as we complete the editing and uploading process, so stay tuned!
As with every MARS Camp, we offered the opportunity for Early Bird Pre-Register for both the MARS Caribbean and Southwest Camps. We will be back in Cozumel, Mexico, November 5th-7th this year for the Caribbean Camp and then back in Austin, Texas, March 4th-6th, 2022, for our next Southwest Camp. These camps are limited to 36 people only, so if you are interested, register early to save your place and money while there is still time.
