If You Aim at Nothing, You’ll Hit It Every Time: Why Clear Goals Change Everything

In WEEK TWO of Goal Setting, we compared setting goals to using any martial arts technique. Punches, kicks, throws, and submissions all demand focus, intention, and a target outcome.
When our goals are clear and specific, we free ourselves of distraction. Each step down the path gives us momentum and purpose. Chewing up each bite of progress builds excitement and confidence. Excitement keeps us going. Confidence helps us conquer larger goals that require more steps and gives us the mental fortitude to leap over obstacles that might slow us down.
Zig Ziglar said, “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.” It’s like walking into a dark room and trying to play darts. What is the chance you are going to hit a bullseye, much less anywhere on the board, if you don’t know where the target hangs? Turn the lights on: state your goal, set a plan, and implement the steps to reach it. Stay focused on your path.
