When Motivation Dies, This Is What Keeps You Going

In WEEK FOUR of Goal Setting, we discussed how meaningful goals bring challenges. These struggles, like stars at night, signal that we are on the right path and encourage us to keep going. They remind us to cling to the initial spark that led us to choose our goal. These moments in our journey are typically when every inch of motivation we had before washes away, and we question our life choices. Often, these feelings at mid-reach stretch us the most and demonstrate the value of what we are trying to accomplish. It’s where our will and drive are tested, and what we will remember the most after the memory of the accomplishment fades. It’s the thing that stories are written about. It’s where there’s nothing left but the discipline we built. Remember, obstacles build strength just like resistance builds muscle, affirming Molière’s words, “The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.”
