MARS SOUTHWEST CAMP 2026 (REVIEW)
It’s hard to believe that nine years ago, we had an idea to host a regional training camp of this caliber. In the world of martial arts, there are multiple training opportunities outside your normal schedule at your school. These include one-day workshops, two-day seminars, and three- or more-day training camps. Our Southwest Camp features three days with 7 hours of training per day. This creates a training experience like no other. Participants train in multiple arts represented in the Martial Arts Research Systems (MARS) Association. These include Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do (JKD), Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), Savate, Shooto, MMA, Muay Thai, BJJ, Silat, Capoeira, and more. The camp features some of the world's best instructors. This year, we hosted our 9th annual camp from March 6th to 8th, where Ron Balicki, Nicolas Saignac, Alvis Solis, Larry St. Clair, and Joaquin Hernandez all shared their knowledge and so much more!
Friday highlights included Savate, JKD Trapping, Knife Throwing, Kali Knife, BJJ Sweeps, Filipino Boxing, and Kali Single Stick, ending with Savate Glove Testing. Saturday featured Savate, JKD Chi Sao, Knife Throwing Mechanics, Kali Single Stick, BJJ Top Position, Sarong, Kali Double Stick, and official FMA and JKD Testing. Sunday wrapped up with Muay Thai, BJJ Guard, Knife Throwing and Projectiles for Self Defense, Kali Single Stick Hubad, Capoeira, JKD Kickboxing, and Kali Stick and Knife.
Participants for this year’s camp came from all over the United States, representing Washington, California, Colorado, Arizona, and New York. Many Texas cities were also present, including Austin, Pflugerville, Houston, Dallas, Tyler, and more. Multiple levels were present in every art, from beginner to instructor, offering everyone a chance to learn from one another and enjoy sharing this unique training experience. Each year, strong bonds of friendship form and endure as many participants return year after year. Some attendees have attended 7, 8, and even all 9 camps. This shows that the MARS Southwest Camp is one of the premier training events of the year.
