The Quiet Force Behind Confidence, Discipline, and Growth

At the turn of the new year, everyone is always fired up and motivated to set goals, make plans to do more, and make the most of the year. We hear all the cliché sayings like “New Year, New Me” and more, offering us additional drive toward this movement. Gym rats all around complain that in January, they can’t find space or a machine for their everyday workouts, but they have realized that if they are patient and give it two to four weeks, those on the New Year’s bandwagon will disappear.

This new year movement often seems like a fire that starts with a big burst of quick-burning fuel, only to burn itself out before it can even get started. That is why we pick our topics of the month and dive deeper with our students each week. Our newest topic, Consistency, helps us understand what it takes to build a slow-burning fire that continues throughout the year, keeping us motivated and disciplined.

In Week One, we described Consistency as the ability to maintain commitment and effort toward a chosen course of action. It’s not about showing up for a single day. It’s about showing up, again and again, even when we don't feel like it. Understanding that “Consistent action creates consistent results” is what gets us from the starting line to the finish line. Let’s face it, we are going to get tired. We are going to be sore. We are not going to feel like getting out of bed on dark, cold days. We’ll negotiate during these days with mental terrorism, make excuses, and even justify why we can’t, won’t, or don’t show up. In five minutes, any one of us can come up with a whole list of laundry that has to be done, and that is why we should skip the one thing that can actually make a difference in our lives. Training is more than just physical; the effort we put into moving our bodies benefits our minds and spirits, elevating us to meet greater challenges and possibilities. That’s because “We become what we practice most consistently.”

Each month, we develop Character Development Topics that break growth into weekly, accessible ideas. These lessons and more are available on our YouTube Channel, Facebook, and Instagram.
