Knife Disarm Workshop (REVIEW)

This workshop was our 10th monthly installment to our Workshop Program that kicked off in January 2023. We started polling our students at the end of the 2022 training year to see which topics they would like to see more of over the following year. We then built an entire program around these training subjects and scheduled one workshop every month to help our students progress further.

This workshop isolated the Reverse or Ice Pick Grip as the method of deployment from the attacker. In the two-hour workshop, the students worked in two of the five zones where the knife would be a threat. They learned two techniques in each zone and two to three variables that might happen during the engagement with their partner. As the students improved, we built games they could play within each area to develop their tactile and problem-solving skills further. With their confidence elevated, we overlapped each zone game to flesh out their ability to visually pick up on the variable of attack and their body’s physical relationship to it. Every student went home with noticeable areas of improvement and a plan of what they could do in future training sessions to continue sharpening their skills.

This workshop's syllabus will be live and available for review to the attendees soon, and a full curriculum will be available for purchase shortly. Thank you to everyone who attended, and if you want to increase your flexibility, check out our Flexibility Workshop on Saturday, November 18th at 10am HERE
